The Best Night’s Sleep

You know you’re getting old when you wake up with unexplainable aches and pains in your body. You think it’s normal to feel this way. Perhaps you should have kept up with your exercise regimen, you think to yourself. Or maybe it’s time for a new bed, you say.

What if I told you that the pain you’re feeling might possibly be due to another reason? Before you buy another bed, consider getting a foam mattress. I thought my options were limited until I checked out the information from Foam Nights. I didn’t know there were different thicknesses, densities, and even hybrid options. This gave me a better idea of what mattress suited me the best.

So are you really getting old, or do you just need improved sleeping conditions? I would go with the latter before ever accepting age as the culprit. I know that aching joints and such is normal as we age, but there has to be a solution to this. We don’t have to accept the pain as normal if there’s another option. Foam mattresses seem to offer an easy solution. I discovered it’s fairly affordable too.

I was skeptical of this as well. Who would’ve thought that memory foam would feel superior to my old mattress? Learning about the composition of various layers of the mattress was an eye opener as well. I used to think everything was the same, but there’s a slew of options beyond high density foam and premium foam. Some mattresses even have a cool gel layer. This might be the perfect solution for those who already use cool gel pillows. The advancements in technology has definitely come a long way in improving our lives.

And if your bed just needs a bit more support, or more firmness or softness, you can always get a foam mattress topper. That’s what I did for my kids’ beds. They ended up loving it. And now they don’t complain about their beds feeling uncomfortable anymore, and we didn’t have to spend money to replace their beds. This was definitely a win for our family.

Before getting the mattress, I tossed and turned all night. I was so restless and couldn’t find a comfortable position. Sometimes it felt as if the springs would pop out of the mattress. Most mornings I’d wake up feeling groggy and exhausted. I’d trudge my way to the kitchen to cook breakfast and pack lunches. Even my mood was affected because of the lack of sleep. I couldn’t continue like that. Something had to give.

After sleeping on the new mattress the first night, it was like night and day. I slept so deeply I slept through my alarm. I hit the snooze button a few times as well, although I didn’t remember doing that.  And for the first time in a long time my eyes were clear and alert. Best of all, the constant pain in my back was greatly reduced. As I continued to sleep well, the pain completely disappeared. I was impressed because I didn’t need to stretch or use the foam roller as often to alleviate the aches.

Another result of getting a better night’s sleep: my partner didn’t snore as often. I won’t even tell you how many times I’d have to shift him to alleviate the snoring. If you’re a light sleeper, this is something to try.

So if you’re on the fence regarding foam mattresses, at least test some out. With so many options to choose from, there’s bound to be one or two that meet your needs and price point.  And if you don’t find any you absolutely love, you can always go back to the traditional kind.

While we can’t stop ourselves from aging, we have a choice in doing so gracefully. That means taking extra care when possible, which includes how we sleep. That’s the foundation for everything else. It dictates how our day goes, and it influences and affects our well-being. There’s nothing more valuable than a good night’s rest.
